Lauren Dobbs, Psy.D. has over fifteen years of experience working with children, adolescents, and their families in clinical and educational capacities. She graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a concentration in creative writing. After six years of teaching high school, Lauren pursued her Masters and Doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Lauren has experience working in schools, community mental health, and residential treatment settings. She is well-versed in interventions targeting mood and anxiety disorders, parenting strategies, attention and impulse-control issues, and trauma. She also has extensive experience conducting neuropsychological evaluations.

Lauren is committed to the betterment of children and their families, and finds therapy to be an effective vehicle of meaningful change. She employs a variety of treatments in her practice, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, behavioral modification techniques, mindfulness, and aspects of dialectical behavioral therapy. Though she relies on evidence-based modalities as the foundation of her practice, Lauren is also passionate about harnessing the natural inclination of children towards the creative, and often relies on art, music, games, journaling, and other creative outlets as a safe way to access emotions of children in therapy. Her goal is to create a safe and child-friendly space in which children can communicate their innermost experiences and ultimately effect meaningful change.

During her free time, Lauren enjoys spending time with her family, being outside, and trying to be a better cook.
