A Specialty Behavioral Treatment Program for Families Ready for Real Change

At Flora & Associates, we offer Parent Management Training (PMT), a gold-standard, research-based behavioral treatment designed to help families create lasting change at home.

PMT is one of the most effective interventions for children and adolescents struggling with behavioral challenges, emotional dysregulation, defiance, aggression, and chronic power struggles.

This is not a parenting class.

This is a structured clinical treatment program.

What is Parent Management Training (PMT)?

Parent Management Training is an evidence-based intervention developed through decades of research, including the work of Dr. Alan Kazdin at Yale University.

PMT is based on social learning theory and teaches parents how to:

  • Understand why behaviors occur

  • Change patterns that unintentionally reinforce problem behaviors

  • Build positive behavior through structure, consistency, and connection

  • Respond calmly and effectively in
    high-stress moments

PMT focuses on changing behavior where it actually happens in everyday family life.

As therapists, we are only able to see your child once per week in outpatient therapy. PMT ensures that therapeutic strategies are implemented consistently at home, where real-life challenges occur.

Who is PMT For?

PMT is ideal for families whose child is experiencing:

  • Frequent tantrums or emotional outbursts

  • Defiance, refusal, or power struggles

  • Aggression or impulsive behavior

  • Difficulty with transitions and routines

  • Chronic behavioral challenges at home or school

PMT is often recommended when:

  • Traditional therapy alone has not been enough

  • Behavior is significantly impacting family life

  • Parents feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or unsure how to respond

Program Structure

Our PMT program is a 12–15 week specialty treatment program, customized to each family’s specific needs.

Why PMT Works

PMT is one of the most researched behavioral interventions in child psychology.

  • 92% of families experience significant improvement

  • Backed by decades of clinical research

  • Considered a first-line treatment for behavioral disorders

  • Produces long-term, sustainable change

PMT doesn’t just reduce problem behavior.

It improves family relationships, communication, and emotional regulation.

Important Program Requirements

Because PMT is a clinical treatment program, participation requires commitment and readiness for change.

1. No Medication During PMT

To accurately assess behavioral progress and ensure treatment integrity, no behavior-modifying medication is permitted during the PMT program. This allows us to clearly measure the impact of behavioral interventions alone.

2. Parent Participation is Required

PMT is a parent-focused treatment. Parents are the agents of change. Parent Sessions are essential to your child’s success.

3. Parent Anxiety Must Be Treated Concurrently

Research shows that parent anxiety is the number one reason PMT does not work. When parents are overwhelmed, dysregulated, or unsure of themselves, it becomes very difficult to follow through with the program consistently.

Program Principles

  • You cannot double punish

  • Consequences must be predictable and proportional

  • Positive behavior is reinforced more than negative behavior is punished

  • Parents lead with calm, structure, and consistency

  • Progress is built over time not overnight

This program teaches parents how to become confident, regulated leaders in their home.

PMT Program Investment

Parent Management Training is a specialty behavioral treatment program and is priced accordingly. This is not standard outpatient therapy.

It is a structured, time-limited clinical program with measurable outcomes. Your child’s behavior impacts your entire family system.
This program is an investment in your home, your relationships, and your child’s future.

Program Length

Typically 12–15 weeks depending on family needs.
