Prize Box?

Prize Box?

Many parents often ask me why I have a prize box in my office. Some professionals have asked, “is it really appropriate to be rewarding kids for coming to therapy and opening up?”. To be honest, that’s not really the purpose of my prize box nor what the children I work with associate it with.  In my practice the prize box has been implemented as a tool to keep my very little clients and their siblings occupied and safe while I touch base briefly with their parents about the session and schedule for the following visit. In my opinion, it’s a win, win. Parents are very pleased to get some quality, uninterrupted time  with me for needed discussions and  to receive needed updates about their child’s  session. And my clients are even more ecstatic to dig through the bucket of sensory toys, fun objects, and inviting colors.  What could be more fun!
